Arctic challenge winners announced

This summer RSA employees out ran, out thought and out fundraised each other to win the trip of a life time to the Arctic. Over 10,000 employees competed across three categories to witness, first hand, the impacts of climate change.

The ‘Muscat Challengers’ from RSA Oman won the step challenge, racking up an impressive number of steps walking to and from work, through markets, malls and on the beach to reach their daily targets. They even walked a staggering 33kms from the head office to Seeb airport to reach the top of the leader board.

Team ‘ACW’ from Royal Sundaram in India earned an impressive 17,700 points to win the fundraising challenge. They organised general awareness and fundraising activities for WWF India’s Save the Tiger campaign, earning valuable bonus points and raising thousands of pounds. Together, they contributed 31 days of their time.

Team ‘Bare Necessities’ from the UK won the bright green ideas challenge with a novel incentive scheme that encourages employees to buy fuel efficient cars by giving them preferential rates. Payments would be made direct from employees’ salaries, making them tax efficient. If 30% of UK employees took up the scheme, they could save over 17,300 tonnes of CO2 over the next 5 years. The Group and UK Corporate Responsibility (CR) team will work with the team to make their idea a reality.

All winning teams will travel to the Arctic in November to explore this beautiful, remote and changing environment. The winners will spend time with leading WWF scientists and witness the impact of climate change – an experience which could change the way our employees, and their friends, families and colleagues think about the future of our planet.
